Exenatide (Byetta)
LOWER BLOOD SUGAR - LOSE WEIGHT
WHAT IS EXENATIDE (BYETTA)
Exenatide is a glucagon-like peptide one receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs). It was used primarily as a treatment option for type II diabetes because it has been shown to lower A1C and weight while having a low risk of hypoglycemia.
In one clinical trial of Byetta used on its own, people receiving Byetta had a reduction in their average HbA1c levels of 0.7% to 0.9% after 24 weeks.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EXENATIDE (BYETTA)
Exenatide is well tolerated with little side effects. The benefits of weight loss are known to be higher in patients who combine diet, exercise with Exenatide.
Benefits may includid:
- Lower blood sugar
- Weight loss.
- Feel full faster and longer
- Suppress appetite
- Increase sugar uptake and synthesis in peripheral tissues.

HOW DOES EXENATIDE (BYETTA) WORK
This peptide hormone works by that increasing insulin secretion and decreases glucagon secretion from the pancreas in a glucose-dependent manner.
Exenatide reduces glucose and weight by increasing glucose-dependent insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon secretion, delaying gastric emptying, and increasing satiety.
Doctors do know that GLP-1s appear to help suppress appetite. These drugs also slow the movement of food from the stomach into the small intestine. As a result, you may feel full faster and longer, so you eat less.
WHAT IS THE DOSAGE OF EXENATIDE (BYETTA)
A typical starting dosage of Exenatide is 5 mcg injected twice a day, in the hour before each of your two main meals.
Most people give themselves one injection in the hour before breakfast and another in the hour before dinner.
However, if you don’t eat much breakfast, you could choose to have your first injection in the hour before lunch. Your second injection would still be in the hour before your dinner, as long as these meals are at least 6 hours apart.
After 4 weeks, your doctor may increase your dosage to 10 mcg twice a day. This will depend on how well your blood sugar respond to the injections.
